An urgent product recall has been issued for a popular brand of ice cream because of a potential health hazard.

ALDI released an emergency notice regarding one litre tubs of Indulge butterscotch pear gourmet ice cream on Friday – warning people not to eat it.

The issue is the frozen treat was incorrectly labelled, with no warning of the peanuts it contains – which could be dangerous to some people.

ALDI stressed that the ice cream batch in question has an expiry date of May 9, 2023.

The significance of that is people could mistakenly keep it for another 18 months without knowing of the potential danger.

‘The recall is due to the presence of an undeclared allergen (peanut) due to use of incorrect packaging,’ a statement from ALDI said.

‘Any consumers who have a peanut allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed.

‘Consumers who have a peanut allergy or intolerance should not consume this product.’ 

The public is being asked to return the product for a full refund.
