As Winter Storm Kenen brought massive amounts of snow to parts of the US this weekend, many Americans stayed warm and dry at home.
But for one absent-minded Boston University student, home wasn’t quite so warm or dry after she left her window wide open overnight and spent the evening at her boyfriend’s place.
By the next morning, much of the two feet of snow dumped over Boston had blown inside her bedroom, piling up in fluffy white inches over her bed, her desk, and her floor.
Snowed in at her boyfriend’s apartment, the young woman, known only as Ashlyn, didn’t even know that her room looked like the North Pole until her freezing roommates let themselves in to investigate a powerful draft wafting from her door.

Ashlyn’s ice-cold error was shared by her roommate, who goes by @youaintseenothingg on TikTok.

She and a third roommate, Bella, appear to have been home during the snowstorm but were uncomfortable with how cold it was inside their apartment on Saturday morning.
‘I kinda am frozen,’ the TikToker texted Bella.
Bella agreed, sending back a photo of her closed window, which had a light dusting of what looked like snow on the inside.
Suddenly, Bella seemed to realize that the cold waft of air was coming from behind Ashlyn’s closed door and texted her.

Ice had formed in one of their rooms, and they soon discovered the cold was coming from Ashlyn’s room
Once Ashlyn told them where her spare bedroom key was, they went to investigate
Ashlyn admitted that she had left her window open, but insisted it was just a ‘crack’ and asked her roommates to use her spare key to get into the bedroom to close it.
Key in hand and dressed in warm winter coats, Bella and the TikToker let themselves into Ashlyn’s room — where the window was wide open.
Overnight, the storm had blanketed the bedroom in snow, likely damaging much of what was inside.
Video shows a bed completely covered in snow, with about an inch or two covering most of the floor.
Ashlyn’s desk and chair were also covered, as was a pair of shoes on the floor.
Her roommates were nice enough to not only close the window but begin cleaning up the mess with a dustpan.

Though Ashlyn’s roommates appear to have been nice about the mistake, commenters are horrified that she left the window open at all during a snowstorm — and that she did so while locking her bedroom door, impacted the temperature for the rest of the apartment.
‘Why is her window even open in the first place, it’s been so cold all week,’ wrote one.
‘Okay so she can pay the heating bill this month,’ wrote another, while a third said she should be paying ‘rent and all the utilities for the month.’
‘Who leaves their window open in winter in the northeast?’ wrote a fourth.
‘I would not have been that nice. Sorry… but I’m not sorry,’ said one more, while yet another called it ‘irresponsible.’
At least one commenter offered some helpful advice, telling the women to get a dehumidifier to minimize the damage.
