MasterChef star Poh Ling Yeow reveals her incredible hack to make ‘disappointing’ pineapples tasty again


She’s the Malaysian-born Australian chef who rose to fame on MasterChef in 2009.

And on Monday, Poh Ling Yeow revealed one of her hacks to make ‘disappointing’ pineapples more edible.

Poh, 49, said that if you buy a pineapple that’s too bitter, you can add a pinch of salt to the flesh to make it tasty.

‘Have a disappointing pineapple? Add a sprinkle of salt,’ she wrote on Instagram. 

The sodium from the salt is said to help with the bitterness of the fruit. 

Former artist Poh knows a thing or two about cooking, having won over fans on MasterChef Australia back in 2009.

She went on to have her own cooking series on the ABC called Poh’s Kitchen, and has even released her own cookbooks.

She also runs her own market stall in Adelaide, called Jamface. 

Poh previously told Business Insider cooking helped her reconnect with her culture and heritage.

‘I thought if I have children I have nothing of my heritage to pass on to them and so I thought I really need to reconnect with my culture. And food is such a natural fit for me, I love cooking, I’m just so driven with food,’ she explained.

She added: ‘So I felt like I really needed to pursue that in a serious way.’
