Nurse’s warning about bath toys after mum finds a toy FILLED with dangerous mould 

A paediatric nurse has pleaded to parents about the importance of checking and airing out bathtub toys properly after a mum discovered toxic mould inside her child’s squirter. 

The Australian mum spotted some black spots of mould in the bathwater while her kids were playing with their favourite Bluey squirting toys.

The bathtub toys were a couple of months old and when the mum decided to cut into one she made a shocking discovery. 

The toy interior revealed a thick layer of black mould at the bottom, top and sides of her child’s toy.   

The nurse from CPR Kids says that although we can’t wrap children in bubble wrap it is extremely important to check toys for safety hazards like mould. 

‘Constant exposure to mould – especially if you have littlies who love to drink bathwater like it’s soup – can be dangerous,’ the paediatric nurse wrote.

She says the inside of this toy is a great reminder of how quickly mould can grow even if toys are cleaned after each bath. 

The nurse suggests parents select bath toys that do not retain any water and says there are plenty of toy options that can be pulled apart to dry in-between uses.

Parents have shared their mutual shock over the bath toy mould discovery and many have agreed to take on board the nurse’s caution. 

‘I only get duplo and other toys like that for ease of use and cleaning,’ a mum wrote.

‘This can also happen with teething toys. [I cut] a giraffe teething toy and it smelt funky. I cut it open and it was full of mould,’ a mum wrote.

‘Yuck we would have never of thought of this! Thanks,’ another wrote.
