Harry Kane reportedly wants assurances that Antonio Conte will be backed this summer before he commits his future to Tottenham.

The England captain tried to engineer a move last year to this weekend’s opponents Manchester City, to improve his chances of winning trophies.

Kane is happier now though and feels Conte could be the man to end Tottenham’s 14-year long wait to win a trophy.

The Sun have reported though that the 28-year-old ‘expects guarantees’ from chairman Daniel Levy that Tottenham appease Conte and bring in the quality new signings that the Italian desires.

Kane wants those assurances before he would consider committing his future to Tottenham – rather than try to look for a move away from the club again this summer.

Both Kane and Conte have had their frustrations over Tottenham.

Kane had hoped to join Manchester City last summer, though Levy priced Pep Guardiola’s side out of the move as they valued the striker at £160million.

The relationship between Kane and Levy has been uneasy, with the striker unhappy that he felt a promise to let him leave during the last summer transfer window had been broken.

After taking some time to get firing this season, Kane scored four goals in five league games – though he has failed to find the back of the net in their last three outings which have all been defeats.

Kane will lead the line on Saturday when Tottenham travel to Manchester City in a game that Conte has admitted will be ‘very tough’ for his side.

Conte has been very vocal about Tottenham’s business during the January transfer window.

Last month, Spurs brought in only Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, while Tanguy Ndombele, Bryan Gil, Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso all left.

In an interview, Conte said: ‘Four players left in January. Four important players for Tottenham, two have arrived. So even numerically instead of reinforcing, you may have, on paper, weakened.’

The Italian has also talked down their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, saying they have just a ‘one per cent’ chance of finishing in the top four.

Recent defeats by Chelsea, Southampton and Wolves have left Tottenham eighth in the standings and seven points off the top four, albeit, with three games in hand over Manchester United, who occupy fourth spot.
