Spain boss Luis Enrique will be in the stands to watch Manchester United take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this evening, according to reports.

United are on the hunt for their next permanent manager after hiring Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season, and Enrique has been strongly linked with the hot seat.

Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag, as reported by Sportsmail, are the favourites to take the reins, but Enrique’s presence tonight will only fuel the speculation.

It is nothing new, of course, for an international coach to keep a close eye on players they may call up, with several Spanish seasoned players front and centre.

El Partidazo de Cope, via The Mirror, reported former Barcelona tactician Enrique would be at the game, and the 51-year-old will prove a tough target for United.

That is because he remains under contract in his current position, and Spain are on the cusp of looking to add another World Cup trophy to their collection in the winter.

The side are unlikely to be willing to allow their manager to walk away at such a crucial time, leaving Pochettino and Ten Hag firmly in the driving seat.

Enrique was also quick to play down talk of him quitting Spain late last year.

‘Is it April Fools’ Day today?’ he jokingly asked. ‘I am already in the biggest team in Spain, the national team.

‘We are 5,000 players, I have the players I want. What’s bigger than that?

‘The future changes in 15 seconds. Now we have to enjoy ourselves, and I am happy where I am.’
