  • A Coles shopper has revealed her ‘mind blowing’ checkout hack on TikTok
  • The hack makes it easier to feed coins into the machines – but staff hate it
  • The supermarkets have asked customers not to use the hack as coins get stuck
  • The hack went viral last year as well, prompting the stores to speak out

A Coles shopper has revealed her ‘time-saving’ checkout hack which allows shoppers to insert a whole handful of coins at once when paying by cash.

The hack, which was posted on TikTok by ‘Jazzy Pink’, involves lifting the cap off the coin slot so more than one coin fits in at a time.

‘I just discovered this and it honestly blew my mind. Also when you pay with coins, it’s basically free,’ the young woman said.

And while it appeared to be a huge hit for some, employees weren’t impressed.

‘It flips up so that we can correct jams in the coin feed. But thank you for helping to jam the machines and making my job harder,’ one worker said.

‘The only thing this does is wastes a team member’s time while they try to unclog it.’ added another.

Supermarkets have issued an urgent warning against shoppers who plan on testing a popular 'time saving hack' on their self-service checkouts

Supermarkets have issued an urgent warning against shoppers who plan on testing a popular ‘time saving hack’ on their self-service checkouts

‘It might make your time at the checkout quicker, until the day it clogs it and you have to stand there waiting, copping stares, while someone like me fixes it.’

Other customers appeared confused by the hack.

‘Who uses coins?’ one man asked.

‘As if people still use cash when you can pay on your phone,’ said another.

This isn’t the first time a shopper has realised the slot can be opened and made a ‘gam-changing’ video encouraging others to try the trick.

Coles and Woolworths told FEMAIL the coin guard is ‘not meant for customer use’ and asked shoppers not to follow the advice in the viral videos.

Lifting the cap off the coin deposit section can jam the machine, according to a Woolworths insider.

The original viral video got more than 700,000 likes which prompted the supermarkets to speak out.
