Mother is left in stiches by fake tan fail that makes her look like an Oompa Loompa

A mother who wanted to spend more time on self-care managed to fall at the first hurdle when she experienced a hilarious fake tan fail.

Jules Spence, 44, from Cambuslang, Glasgow, was left orange-faced after a failed attempt at fake tan led to her friends asking if she was an extra Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

After vowing to spend more time on self-care, Jules says she wanted to give herself a healthy glow and borrowed her daughter, Poppy, 12, fake tan without realising it was the extra dark shade.

dachshund, Yorkshire terrier cross named Toffee who is just over four months old. He is doing well with his toilet training and as the next step we’d just like to work on things like coming to heel when walking. He’s integrating well with our cat and we’re training him not to chase her, but it would be good to have some extra help with that too.

She says that her family was mortified when she appeared downstairs with an orange face after attempting to apply the tan.

Jules, a marketing manager, added: ‘I wasn’t looking in the mirror when I was applying the fake tan, so I couldn’t see what I was doing or how it was looking.

‘I never wear fake tan and I only decided to try it because I wanted to make a bit more of an effort with self-care and I wanted to give myself a glow, so I also don’t know the best techniques for putting it on.

‘It was a Friday evening in December when I decided to tan and we had plans to go out for dinner the following night, so I wanted to make an effort.

‘So I grabbed the bottle of tan from my daughter’s room and tried to apply it the best I could.

‘When I took a look at myself in the front camera on my phone, I got the biggest shock when I realised how dark it was.

‘I then went downstairs to see my kids Jamie, 14, Poppy, Ellie, nine, and my husband, David, and they could not believe their eyes when they saw me.’

Jules followed the instructions on the bottle of tan, which she later realised was in the shade extra dark, and left the tan to develop for three hours as she expected that most of the colour might wash off in the shower.

After jumping in the shower, Jules couldn’t believe the colour of the water that was running off her,

She said: ‘The water was a very dark brown and it was even staining my shower.

‘But because of the water, I was sure that most of the tan would have washed off.

‘So when I looked at myself in the mirror and saw that I was still extremely tanned, I couldn’t believe it.

‘I was mortified but I also found it hilarious.

‘I’d given myself much more than a glow, it was so dark and obvious.

‘I video called my friends to show them what I had done and they were in hysterics.

‘They were calling me an Oompa Loompa and asking if I was going to be auditioning for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

‘My husband thought I was ridiculous!

‘I spent the next few days trying to get it off and I was showering twice a day.

‘But I didn’t have much luck as it was very full-on and obvious for about four days.

‘My work colleagues thought it was hilarious when they saw me on Monday.’
