A victim of the floods that have swamped Australia’s east coast has had a turn in luck – winning a $1.4million new home and land package in a lottery.

Surf Life Saving Lotteries has announced that an unknowing resident of flood-affected Mullumbimby Creek, located some 50km north of Lismore, had won the new property in Bribie Island, between the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.

SLSl said it had been trying to contact the winner but hadn’t been able to get through, likely due to damage to telecommunication systems.

The winner is hoping to remain anonymous.

Surf Life Saving Lotteries shared post last week that an unknowing Mullumbimby Creek resident, 50km north of Lismore, had won a $1.4 million property in Bribie Island

The 730-square-metre property features four bedrooms, an in-ground pool and spa, and $159,700 worth of electrical appliances and interiors

The Mullumbimby Creek region was hit hard in the northern NSW floods and landslides early last week.

The ABC reports about 200 residents of the Upper Wilsons Creek, Huonbrook and Wanganui communities, about 16km west of Mullumbimby, were left isolated after landslides and floodwater damaged several main roads.

Power, phones, and internet were cut off and locals were forced to hike through debris to deliver essential fuel and food to their neighbours.

Residents with earth moving equipment worked hard to patch roads so people could move between homes a bit easier.

‘We hope this win provides some much-needed support to our NSW supporter,’ the SLSL said in a statement.
