Sweet dad dons ‘cone of shame’ to match his sad Labrador and to make him ‘feel better’ after surgery

A father donned a ‘cone of shame’ to match his Labrador’s so he would feel ‘less lonely’ after surgery.

Alex Morgan, from Reading in Berkshire, walked into her living room to find her dad sat nursing a coffee and watching TV with a huge plastic cone around his neck – matching their seven-year-old dog Ollie’s.

The 22-year-old burst out laughing and quickly whipped out her camera to capture the hilarious moment, while the chocolate labrador rested contently on his owner’s lap.

Alex, who works in marketing, has revealed she even decorated the ‘very happy’ dog’s cone to keep his spirits up, turning it into a bouquet of flowers and a McDonald’s fries box.

Alex said: ‘Ollie’s a very happy dog and usually takes everything in his stride, but after his surgery he was feeling very sorry for himself.

‘My dad is the sort of dad where dad jokes are his thing. He’ll do anything to make us laugh so I don’t know if he put the cone on and sat there to make us laugh, or make the dog feel better.

‘He achieved both so he was really pleased with himself.

‘We’ve got two cones and had one that was too big for the dog. It happened to be the right size for my dad.

‘Dad said he was sat there for about an hour before anyone noticed, which is ridiculous.’

Ollie, who something of a TikTok celebrity with 2.8 million followers, had just come out of surgery to remove a lump from his eyelid and has now been given the all-clear by vets.

While he was ‘very upset’ about his cone, Alex claims he soon settled down after seeing his owner modelling the same plastic collar.

Alex said: ‘Ollie’s feeling well now and back to his normal self. He’s not wearing the cone anymore so he’s happier than ever.

‘He’d just had a little lump surgically removed from his eyelids. It was tested and he got the all-clear so he’s doing well.

‘He wasn’t trying to get the cone off but we had to keep it on him so he didn’t scratch his eye.

‘I think it helped Ollie feel calmer as he was very upset about it beforehand and you can see in the video he was very content just on dad’s lap.

‘A lot of the comments asked how dad was drinking the coffee with the cone on his head, but he showed me and he could do it.

‘I wasn’t quite tempted to fashion one myself, I left that for my dad to do.

‘Ollie had it on for about a week and I decorated his cone too.’
