Beauty editor reveals how she gets rid of an ‘angry, red pimple’ in just 24 hours

Beauty editor reveals how she gets rid of an ‘angry, cystic pimple’ in just 24 hours using an INJECTION – but they’re not for the faint-hearted

  • Founder of Beauticate and ex magazine editor Sigourney Cantelo got a zit
  • On Thursday she decided to treat the red pimple to an Ultraceuticals facial
  • This was swiftly followed up by a painful steroid injection into the site
  • Sigourney was hoping the pimple would clear by Friday evening
  • Both treatments managed to reduce the size of the zit and she covered it

An ex beauty editor has shared her ‘magic’ pimple eraser in the form of a steroid injection and how it can work to diminish an ‘angry, red zit’ in just 24 hours.

Founder of Beauticate Sigourney Cantelo is no stranger to trying new beauty treatments but when a spot appeared on her chin on Thursday she resorted to her foolproof plan of getting a cortisone shot to clear it by the following evening.

She visited Muse Clinic in Sydney for an Ultraceuticals facial treatment to have the spot ‘lanced’ before speaking to Dr Stephen Lowe about injectable options.

‘I have this enormous pimple. So I asked Dr Lowe if he could actually inject it with cortisone and he can. So I’m going to try that and see, apparently it heals the pimple really fast,’ she explained on her Instagram Story.

‘I’ve done it before and it worked amazingly then, so it would be good to see if it works this time.’

Sigourney took footage in the treatment room where her skin therapist Martine was lathering her chin with a special pore-clearing mask.

‘So we’re really blasting this shiner. We’ve done the enzyme mask and now we’re using a treatment lotion on it with salicylic acid to try and unblock it,’ she said.

‘It has clove oil in it as well which is anti-bacterial. Then we’ll finish with a purifying mask and then hopefully, off it goes.’

After the treatment was finished and the pimple had been professionally popped, removing all of the pus, Sigourney visited Dr Lowe for the needle.

‘So for some people who get cystic eruptions we can occasionally treat them with steroid injections. It acts as a local anti-inflammatory to reduce the swelling and improve symptomatic relief,’ he told her.

But with beauty comes the occasional pain and Sigourney let out a yelp when the needle entered the pimple site.

‘I’m not going to lie, that was pretty bloody painful. I had forgotten how painful it can be. It’s just one way of dealing with a very sore, angry pimple,’ she said.

‘I have had the injections before and found it sped up the healing process considerably.’

Cortisone injections aren’t used on blackheads or whiteheads, which will disappear in just a few days.

'It's red but it's pretty flat. All the pain is gone which is good. I'll just need some good concealer,' she said of the 24-hour review

After returning home she put a hydrocolloid 'sticker' over the top of the pimple to re-hydrate it and decided to see how much it had changed in the morning
