A woman who has been in a relationship for six years has revealed she has ‘never slept’ in the same bed as her partner because she ‘likes to be well rested’.
Luana Ribeira, 40, from Anglesey, North Wales, gets up in the middle of the night to work on her PR business so won’t allow her partner Alex Meyer, 37, to sleep in her bed.
She says that all couples should sleep in separate bedrooms ‘to make sure they are well rested’ as tiredness leads to ‘crabbiness and less patience with your partner.’
Writing for Insider, the PR professional said separate sleeping spaces has benefited both their personal and their professional lives.

She revealed her ‘golden hour of creativity’ usually strikes at 2am so she likes to get up to work on her PR business
‘In my previous relationships, when I’d say I would like my own space, it wasn’t well received,’ she explained.
‘Hearing that Alex wasn’t offended and that he also wanted his own space was music to my ears.’
‘We are almost always well rested. This seems simple, but I know from experience and from friends that this is not always the case when sharing a bedroom.’
The mum-of-three said the arrangement makes her ‘excited’ to see Alex every morning.
The couple weren’t sure their arrangement would work when they welcomed their baby Celyn.
However they have discovered a system who works for them as Luana is ‘on call’ for night feedings and Alex gets up early with the tot.
She would also recommend separate bedrooms to all couples as they ‘are almost always well rested’
Lunana has children Electra, now 10, and Seren, 11 with her former husband James.
In 2020 Luana revealed how she left her home and moved to Portugal to be with Alex, who was actually her ex-husband’s best friend.
She decided to leave her three-bedroom detached home and live in a ‘muddy’ ditch eco-home with Alex.
They fashioned the home out of a poly-tunnel and lived for a few months without electricity or running water, and during this time she was able to find the clarity and motivation she needed to really kickstart her life again.
In the ditch is where she found love with Alex and she says she hasn’t looked back since.

‘It made me so much more appreciative of the small things,’ said Luana. ‘Running water, power, internet, being able to keep the mosquitoes out and to straighten my hair. It transformed who I was as a person. I even changed my full name to reflect that.’
Luana says her life had erupted into chaos before she decided to make the unusual decision to move – and live in a ditch full of mud.
‘After being happily married for eight years, I was going through a marriage break up,’ she explained. ‘I was confused, my self-worth and confidence had plummeted and I felt like I didn’t even know who I was any more.’
‘I was living in a nice suburb of Leeds, running the business of my dreams and had a great income, but I felt lost and empty.’

However, Luana found running a business online with no power, internet or transport increasingly challenging. Now, the couple are living together in Wales, and are going stronger than ever
‘I felt like I needed to escape, a family friend, Al Meyer, had moved out to Portugal where he had bought some land and it made sense to me that Portugal would be the place that I could go for some space.’
‘As soon as I arrived, I knew I didn’t want to leave. I had booked myself into a nice holiday apartment and Al came to visit and ended up staying there with me.
Luana was in awe as he told her about his experience living in nature and said the thought of living wild was so appealing to her.
However, Luana found running a business online with no power, internet or transport increasingly challenging.
Now, the couple are living together in Wales, and are going stronger than ever.
‘I’d love to be able to say that the sanctuary opened and we rescued lots of animals and everything turned out nicely, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be,’ said Luana. ‘We faced too much opposition and, devastated, we moved away from the area while we figured out our next move.’
