The Voice Australia: Guy Sebastian sparks outrage by bending the rules

The Voice coach Guy Sebastian sparks outrage by asking producers to bend the rules for him: ‘They let him cheat every year!’

The Voice Australia coach Guy Sebastian is facing backlash over a controversial decision on Sunday’s episode.

The 40-year-old asked for permission to allow both his team members to stay in the competition after their impressive battle round performance.

Jordan Tavita and Celestial Utai performed Guy’s single Art of Love, but he struggled to choose a winner so instead asked producers to bend the rules in his favour.

‘They let him cheat every year!’ The Voice Australia coach Guy Sebastian sparked outrage by asking the producers to bend the rules in his favour during Sunday night’s episode

His request was granted and both Jordan and Celestial were allowed to progress, which left many viewers furious.

One fan tweeted: ‘The Art of Love, according to Guy, is to make the competition harder for everyone by being “indecisive” when it’s convenient for you, then hold everyone else hostage until you get what you want.’

‘Why does Guy think it’s okay to break the rules I feel sorry for the artists cut because the other coaches play by the rules,’ another questioned.

A third agreed, tweeting: ‘This is not fair to the other singers. Guy should have picked a winner.’

A fourth viewer wrote: ‘I’m done watching The Voice. If I was Rita, Jess and Keith, I’d walk. You let Guy cheat every year. Why bother honestly?’

A similar tweet read: ‘Okay, The Voice, who runs the show and rules? [I’m] so over Guy Sebastian constantly taking the rules and making up his own version.

‘I will stop watching if this continues… he irritates me with his absolute arrogance.’

After Jordan and Celestial’s performance, Guy asked host Sonia Kruger: ‘I don’t want to bend rules or do anything weird, but if I can just ask [to] maybe put them both through to the sing-off?

‘Only if everyone’s cool with that? I know I should make a decision.’

‘So you want them both to win the battle? You understand this isn’t a decision I can make; I need to take this upstairs,’ Sonia responded.

‘I know people at Seven. I can text them if you don’t have access… Sonia, you host many shows, you can do things for me!’ Guy joked.

Sonia later confirmed Guy’s request to keep both his contestants had been approved by The Voice’s executive producers.
