What time will Cyclone Jasper make landfall?

Bureau of meteorology senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said Jasper would likely cross the coast as a category two storm on Wednesday afternoon or early evening.

Where is Cyclone Jasper currenty sitting?

As of 5am on Wednesday, Jasper was about 180km east of Cooktown and had dropped back to a category 1 sytem, producing winds of about 120km/h.

What will happen in direct impact zones and high-risk areas?

High-risk areas will likely be impacted by flash-flooding, heavy rainfall and gale-force winds with a coinciding storm tide expected to hit between Cooktown and Lucinda.

Areas between Cape Flattery and Port Douglas have been flagged as high risk areas by the Bureau of Meteorology.

How strong will the winds be?

Destructive wind gusts could reach 140km/hour.

The Bureau said Wujai Wujai, Wonga, Port Douglas, Cairns, Babinda, Innisfail, Ravenshoe, Herberton, Atherton and Mareeba will be impacted by gale-force winds from early Wednesday.

Forecasters predict 24-hour rain totals of 500mm for the coastline.
