Manchester United fans have criticised Andre Onana for Bayern Munich’s goal in their Champions League defeat.
United were knocked out of European competition altogether on Tuesday evening as they lost 1-0 to Bayern at Old Trafford, with Copenhagen beating Galatasaray 1-0 to leave the Red Devils bottom of the group.
Erik ten Hag’s side won just one of their six group games, losing four, meaning they finished fourth and didn’t manage to reach the Europa League play-off stage.
Kingsley Coman’s goal was enough to secure the win for Bayern, finished off after 70 minutes following good work from Harry Kane and awkward defending from United.
Fans slammed Onana on social media for his role in the goal, with the Cameroon international rooted to his line rather than closing the angle for the shot.

The Red Devils stopped was rooted to his line as Kingsley Coman broke into the area to score
‘Christ, Onana genuinely is dreadful,’ said one X user. ‘How does he, 1, almost fall over before Coman has taken his shot, and 2, stay on his line?’
Another added: ‘I don’t want to keep digging out Onana, but why is the only time he comes off his line is when he’s about to ping a ball 60 yards forward and that’s it, he’s literally standing there giving Coman the easiest finish he’ll ever have.’
A third said: ‘That is criminal positioning from Onana. Not even an attempt at closing down Coman.’
The former Inter goalkeeper has had a mixed start to his time at United, committing a number of errors leading to goals but also helping the team with his ball-playing ability.
There had been suggestions that United were interested in re-signing former goalkeeper David de Gea on a free transfer, but it’s likely that move is now off.
The result meant United exited Europe altogether having lost four of their six group matches
Onana will spend some time away from club football in January when he competes in the African Cup of Nations, and some United supporters may be glad to see the back of him.
‘Why is Onana just glued to his line there man?’ another United fan questioned of their goalkeeper on social media following Coman’s goal.
‘Onana acting like a pro clubs goalkeeper when holding L1 to auto position,’ said another.
United will now have to focus on domestic football following their exit from the Champions League.
