The Block’s serial buyer Adrian Portelli has $2.5million ‘luxury car impounded’ after being stopped by police in Melbourne

The Block’s serial bidder Adrian ‘Mr Lambo’ Portelli was stopped by police in Melbourne on Tuesday as he flaunted his latest luxury car.

The flamboyant entrepreneur, 34 was pulled over while driving his $2.5million McLaren P1 without number plates.

Adrian joked he had his sports car impounded after the routine check.

‘Welcome to Melbourne… Impounded in 15 minutes,’ he wrote.

He then reassured his followers he was joking, adding: ‘That was a joke everyone. Just a routine check. The police were great.’

One fan jokingly commented: ‘I would pull you over just to check the car out too.’

‘Can’t have anything nice when you live in Melbourne,’ a second person joked.

Earlier this year, Portelli sparked backlash when he filmed one his luxury cars being craned into his 57th storey penthouse.

He shared photos on Instagram of the $2million car being lifted into the $39 million penthouse in the Sapphire by the Gardens tower in East Melbourne.

A post describing the car being craned into his house as a ‘rich flex’ sparked a flurry of criticism with Greens leader Adam Bandt leading the backlash.

‘Labor’s giving this guy a $9,000 tax cut while people starve on $52 a day,’ Mr Bandt wrote on Twitter.

Mr Bandt was referring to the Stage Three tax cuts slated to come into effect in the 2024-25 financial year, which were introduced by Scott Morrison’s government and the Albanese Government has so far backed.

The cuts will scrap the 37 per cent marginal tax bracket, lower the 32.5 per cent tax rate to 30 per cent and create a new top marginal tax rate of 45 per cent for those earning over $200,000.

It means everyone who makes between $45,000 and $200,000 will pay the same marginal tax rate. Voters on $60,000 will be eligible for a $375 tax cut, while those who earn more than $200,000 will be eligible for $9,075.

Richard Denniss, the executive director of left-leaning think tank The Australia Institute, tweeted: ‘The cost of living crisis is really biting the wealthy…roll on the $250 billion worth of stage 3 tax cuts so that more Australians will be able to afford to crane their racing car collection into their penthouse.’

Rachel Withers, a contributing editor to The Monthly, tweeted a similar comment about the flashy spectacle.

‘People on JobSeeker are getting an extra $2.86 per day!’ she wrote.

Portelli made The Block history last month when he bought Steph and Gian’s house for a whopping $5million.

He also bid $4.2million on sisters Eliza and Liberty’s property and then made the odd move of bidding against himself – which has never happened on the show before.

Despite helping two teams net a combined $2.7million in profits, Portelli wasn’t done showing off his deep pockets as he swooped in to scoop up Kyle and Leslie’s home.

House 1 had a reserve of $2.97million, and there was hope as Danny Wallis had not yet bought a house, and neither had celebrity bidder Dave Hughes.

However, Kyle and Leslie’s house struggled to make the reserve with the auction absolutely crawling before Portelli jumped in, taking the price to $3.1 million.
