‘People have to make a decision on what side of history they want to be on.  Do they want to care about other people? Or do they just want to look out for themselves?

‘The reason why I like to do the things I do is because I don’t want to make Aboriginal people invisible anymore. I think there’s some worth in my voice. I think there’s some worth in my voice.’

Appearing on The Project earlier this year to promote her autobiography, Top End Girl, the actress said she tries to use her public profile ‘for good’.

‘I really do take my platform seriously. I always want to use my platform for good so if it I get to amplify voices that don’t get heard I’m willing to do that,’ she said.

The Sapphires star said she’s gotten better at speaking out and asking for what she wants as she gets older.

‘I found it really hard in my early 20s to really ask for things, and I guess on this journey that I’ve been on, I’ve learnt that the worse thing that people can do, particularly in my position, is to be told no,’ she said.

Despite her young age, Miranda said it felt like the right time to release her memoir, because ‘a lot of huge things have happened in this time for me’.

She revealed she wrote and starred in last year’s romantic comedy, Top End Wedding, around the same time she was getting married in real life – to husband James Colley.
