He was able to right himself and skied down the remainder of the slope. Reaching the bottom, he joked: ‘Just about made it. With a little detour.’

Presenter Dan Walker, who was speaking to Watson from the studio, said he and co-presenter Sally Nugent had been ‘a little concerned’ when he veered onto the AstroTurf but was pleased he’d ‘brought it back’.

‘You and me both, Dan,’ Watson agreed.

Walker’s co-presenter Sally Nugent praised Watson in between giggles, saying: ‘Congratulations on being outside on the dry ski slope, skiing, going off-piste, bringing us the sports news, interviewing.’

Watson was on hand to speak to one of Muir’s first coaches, who said the skier’s talent was evident from a young age.

Muir, 17, the youngest member of Team GB in Beijing, came fifth in the Women’s Big Air event on Wednesday.

Despite not making the podium, Muir was proud of her performance.
