Daly Cherry-Evans ‘agrees new two-year deal’ with Manly and ‘could extend contract until 2027’ to finish his career with Sea Eagles

Daly Cherry-Evans has reportedly signed a two-year extension with Manly, which will in all likelihood will see him finish his career at the club. 

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the star halfback had penned a deal to remain at Brookvale Oval until 2025, which makes it unlikely he would join another club before retiring. 

The Sea Eagles and the Cherry-Evans are reportedly open to extend the deal to four years, should the halfback remain fit and continue to perform at a high level.

The Redcliffe-born Queensland star will be 34 by the time next season starts was under contract with the Sea Eagles until the end of the 2023 campaign. 

Cherry-Evans has spent his entire professional career at Manly, joining the club in 2011 and winning the Grand Final and Dally M Rookie of the Year award in the same season. 

In 2015, he agreed to join the Gold Coast Titans, before sensationally pulling the plug on the deal and signing an eight-year deal worth $10million to remain in Sydney.

The Sea Eagles captain will go down as one of the club’s all-time greats, having amassed 575 points in 265 games in maroon and white. 

Despite qualifying to play for England through his mother, Cherry-Evans opted to represent Australia and won 15 caps for the Kangaroos, lifting the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

The halfback has represented Queensland 16 times at Origin level and captained the Maroons in the 2019 series, which the Maroons lost 2-1 after winning Game One in Brisbane. 

According to the report, it will take a few days for Manly to confirm the deal as the club currently is without a chief executive after Stephen Humphreys stunned the NRL world by leaving his position on Friday.

Manly chairman Scott Penn remained tight-lipped about Humphreys’ departure , declaring it was a legal matter.  

‘I’m limited [as] to what I can say,’ Penn told the Daily Telegraph.

‘It’s a legal issue so I can’t comment further. We will meet next week to work through it.’ 

Manly’s CEO position has been one of the greatest revolving doors of rugby league in recent times, with multiple people in the hot seat in eight years.
