Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has made the rare move of joining a local gym as he stunned fellow Cheshire residents by signing up to an exclusive £255-a-month facility in Knustford.

Ronaldo, 37, has been seen working out at the Cpase health club, located in an area popular with Premier League footballers, most days this week.

The Portuguese is using these sessions in addition to training at Carrington with United and at his own private gym.

Ronaldo this week posted a picture with his son Cristiano junior in the gym’s cryotherapy chamber. His wife Georgina Rodriguez has also been training there.

There has been speculation over Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford following the team’s poor season, which has seen the Red Devils miss out on qualification for the Championships League.

Ronaldo is under contract at United until 2023, with the option of extending by another year, and incoming manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed he wants the Portuguese forward to remain at the club.

Ten Hag described Ronaldo, who has scored 24 goals in all competitions since his sensational return to Old Trafford, as a ‘giant’.

It is looking increasingly likely that he will remain at the club at least for another season and he told United’s official website last week that he was looking forward to working under ten Hag.

In an interview with De Telegraaf, Ten Hag – who arrived in Manchester on Monday to begin his preparations before he officially starts work on July 1 – said: ‘Ronaldo is a giant, because of what he’s already shown and I think he’s still very ambitious.

‘Of course I would like to keep him. He’s been very important to Manchester United this year and can produce great statistics.’
