Nando’s sparks fury after revealing it’s REMOVED four items including its popular sweet potato mash from the menu to make way for seasonal sides – so, has YOUR favourite been axed?

  • Nando’s has replaced a selection of dishes with seasonal sides in UK branches
  • South African restaurant chain will be updating its menu every four months
  • Angry regulars have taken to Twitter to vent their fury over the radical changes

Many restaurant chain regulars don’t even bother looking at the menu when they visit because they already know which of their favourite dishes they’re going to choose.

However Nando’s is pushing customers out of their comfort zone with an announcement that it is cutting a selection of popular items.

The South African chain is replacing its Fillet Steak Prego Roll as well as the Sweet Potato Mash, Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash with Feta Cheese and the Chargrilled Veg side dishes with new seasonal items.

But the new plans to refresh the menu every four months has sparked fury among some loyal customers.

Nando’s is best known for its PERi-PERi chicken, however social media users have revealed there are other items on the menu that should be considered staples.

Taking to Twitter, many blasted the food outlet for reducing their vegetarian options.

‘So annoyed with @Nandos for removing all the sides I liked and there more healthy (hate salad). No more Fino stuff. No more sweet potato mash, wedges or my favourite butternut squash, spinach & feta thing! This will be my last visit (sic),’ one wrote.

Another said: ‘Nando’s scrapped the butternut squash and sweet potato option. My chest hurts. I’m sick of halloumi being the main veggie option. Their bean burger isn’t that nice. I’m actually heartbroken.’

A third added: ‘Have I really just come across the news that Nando’s have gotten rid of sweet potato mash? They have got to be f****** kidding me.’

The menu changes follow the announcement that Nando’s has overhauled its mango seasoning, replacing the usual lime with passion fruit.

The new limited-edition mild spice hasn’t been welcomed by some customers, despite proving successful at Nando’s Yard last summer.

One person wrote: ‘Just been to Nando’s and they don’t have mango and lime anymore, so that’s just ruined my 2020, I’ll see you all in 2021.’

Another moaned: ‘Nando’s have stopped doing mango and lime and I will personally be seeing them in court due to the emotional distress this news has caused.’

Nando's has also received a flood of comments from customers complaining that they would prefer to keep the original mango and lime sauce instead of having mango and passion fruit

A third added: ‘Nando’s changing mango and lime to mango and passion fruit? How are you going to ruin my 2020 in this aggressive manner? This actually cannot run.’

A spokesperson for Nando’s said: ‘Various dishes will be updated every four months in order to add newness for Nando’s customers.

‘The new, Mild spice has been introduced following the success of Passion Fruit at Nando’s Yard last summer.

‘A tropical and exotic flavour, passion fruit grows across Nando’s’ Southern African heartland, and is the perfect match for PERi-PERi Chicken. This tangy new flavour is perfect for those who like a little sweetness on their wings or want to try something different on their burger.’
