American Idol: Katy Perry learns from psychic that she’s met her ‘soulmate’ and shares pregnancy

Katy Perry learned that fiancé Orlando Bloom was her ‘soulmate’ on Sunday’s episode of American Idol and shared her pregnancy news with her fellow judges.

The 35-year-old pop star was about to listen to musician Jimmy Levy, 21, try out in Savannah, Georgia, when he mentioned that he ‘grew up in a psychic family’ and saw ghosts.

‘My mom was in Ripley’s Believe It or Not when she was 13,’ he added of his mother, Jill Dahne, a clairvoyant with a South Florida radio show who once predicted a terrorist attack.

Soulmate statement: Katy Perry was told by a psychic that she’s met her soulmate on Sunday’s episode of American Idol on ABC

Katy invited Jill to the room, and she entered in a short skirt, sky-high heels and a Birkin bag that judge Luke Bryan, 43, cracked ‘was blessed by St. Rodeo Drive.’

‘I need to protect myself right now,’ Katy said. ‘I’m about to speak in tongues.’

Jill didn’t hesitate when she spotted Katy, immediately saying, ‘You’re an old soul. Yes, and you met your soulmate.’

Pregnancy news: The 35-year-old pop star also shared her pregnancy news with fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan at the start of the two-hour show previously recorded

‘Thanks,’ replied Katy, who got engaged to actor Orlando, 43, in 2019 and just revealed that she is pregnant with their child.

Cheekily, Luke suggested that he was Katy’s soulmate, which had Jill saying, ‘Well, you’re all soulmates in another lifetime, right?’

‘How’s my mind doing?’ the country star asked.

‘Your mind, you have so many people around you,’ Jill replied. ‘And there’s gonna be two siblings coming. Two. And it’s like a St. Christopher that watch over you.’

After Jimmy left the room, Katy whispered, ‘There is white magic and there is black magic, and both can work.’

‘It is crazy,’ Luke said. ‘She did get the two angels of my brother and sister. And she said ‘St. Christopher,’ and my brother’s name was Christopher.’

Luke’s brother Christopher died in a car accident in 2000, while his sister Kelly passed away in 2007 from undetermined causes.

Jill also told judge Lionel Richie, 70, that he needed to ‘start juicing. Even though it’s a long life for you, I want you to change your diet.’

After his mom left, Jimmy won a ticket to Hollywood with his growling cover of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game and Tori Kelly’s Nobody Love.

‘I have my friends above, Phoebe Snow, and Luther Vandross, watching him right now,’ Jill said, referring to the late singers, who died in 2011 and 2005.

Jimmy held his Hollywood ticket close as he exited the show in a party bus with a stuffed giraffe hanging out the front.

‘My mom saw me getting this seven years ago,’ he confessed.

As the show opened, Lionel hinted at Katy’s pregnancy by noting that there would be ‘a fourth judge’ on the show this year.

Katy cradled her belly, and crowed, ‘We’re having a baby! Oh my God, I’m terrified.’

Luke promised to get the ‘fishing tackle’ for her baby shower, while Lionel said he would provide ‘all the shopping the baby ever needs.’

‘We’ll have the outdoors dialed in, and all the Gucci shoes,’ Luke reassured her.

‘Yes! All right, baby needs a new pair of shoes,’ Katy exclaimed.

When Luke and Lionel asked the Fireworks singer if her dressing room and paychecks would get bigger, Katy replied, ‘Well, I’m definitely going to get fat, so look forward to that!’

The auditions that aired Sunday occurred in Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Savannah, and Sunriver, Oregon.

Incredibly, one young hopeful at the Los Angeles auditions said that seven years before, Katy had given her advice that encouraged her to leave her abusive partner.

Singer-songwriter Ren Patrick, 26, from Cypress, Texas, told the judges that she had once been in an ‘unhealthy, toxic relationship’ lasting eight years, and noted she was glad it was over.

That prompted Katy to say, ‘Well, I’m glad that you’ve put some glasses on.’

‘You helped me do that, Katy,’ Ren revealed. ‘I actually went to one of my first Hollywood parties about seven years ago, and we were having a pretty nasty argument. And you walked by, and you were like, ”Ugh, girl dump him”.’

‘Sounds about right,’ Katy admitted.

‘I was so embarrassed, I barely told anyone, honestly,’ Ren went on. ‘It took me seven years, but I took your advice. I’m so much happier now, I feel like a weight’s been lifted off my shoulders.’

Ren’s pretty cover of Robyn’s Dancing On My Own moved Katy, who told her she wasn’t alone.

‘If you were with a guy who didn’t encourage you and didn’t tell you you were great, he’s just a bad dude,’ Luke added. ‘And I’m glad you’re away from him. ‘Cause you’re an incredible singer.’

‘I believe in you. We believe in you,’ Katy said, before the judges handed a golden ticket to Ren’s mom and one to Ren.

In Los Angeles, the first person through was dentistry student Danny La Rota, 24, from Birmingham, Alabama, who played guitar and showcased his range on his cover of Lorde’s Royals.

‘Danny, I don’t know what the heck you’re doing in everybody else’s mouths,’ Katy said. ‘You need to shut their mouths and keep your mouth open. You’re the most original person in this season of American Idol so far.’

Surfing singer Lou Dawg, 23, from Oahu, Hawaii, had no idea who the judges were, confusing Luke with Justin Timberlake, 39, Katy with Sia, 44, and Lionel with Wheel Of Fortune host Pat Sajak, 73.

The judges weren’t fond of his singing on the original song, Feel My Lovin’, and after failing to get sent through, Lou still couldn’t remember Luke’s name, calling him ‘Justin.’

High school student Makayla Phillips, 17, from Temecula, California, was an American Idol superfan making her second Idol audition, with the Jackson Five’s Who’s Loving You.

Before Makayla went through, Katy said it was so good she had to re-shave her legs ‘because I grew chill bumps all over my body,’ calling her ‘Top 10 in my book.’

Used car salesman Devon Alexander, 22, from Sonora, California, grew up in a cabin in the woods with only one TV channel, which showed American Idol.

His crooning on Sam Smith’s Not In That Way had Lionel saying he was ‘glad you showed up here,’ and he also got a ticket to Hollywood.

Couple Kat Luna, 19, and Alejandro Cortes, 26, from Miami and Pembroke Pines, Florida, began their romance at church and were dubbed ‘the American Idol Ken and Barbie’ by Luke.

Their rendition of Lady Gaga’s Shallow, from A Star Is Born, had Katy crying, ‘I believe in love again!’ and Luke asking, ‘Are you real people?’

‘I’ve never seen two people complement each other so well,’ Lionel said as they got a ticket.

In Milwaukee, the judges met Mosean Wilson, 23, a non-profit employee and father of one from Springfield, Illinois, whose tough life came through in his raw, bluesy voice.

‘I never really had a real childhood,’ said Mosean, who found his ‘bipolar, schizophrenic,’ drug-addicted father’s body after he overdosed last year and was still haunted by the memory.

Mosean toted his own keyboard and sang an original, Slip Away, which made Katy cry, Lionel hug him and a ‘tore up’ Luke said, ‘You’re what it’s all about, buddy.’

‘I waited for this moment,’ Mosean said, humbly. ‘I waited.’

‘Your talent is your way out of this madness,’ Lionel said, as they sent Mosean to Hollywood.

Some successful contestants were most memorable for their sidekicks. Phlebotomist Emma Kate, 22, from Sweet Home, Oregon, had her father, a goat-roper, accompany her on the Beatles’ Come Together, while chalk artist Marcus Tinsley, 28, from Phoenix, Arizona, brought a pig along as he sang Bazzi’s Mine.

Tavia Smith, 29, Compton, California, came with British ‘girl-tarist’ Terry, a former US Naval officer she’d known for 48 hours, who called her voice ‘a mix between Jesus and Fergie.’

But Tavia’s version of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive wasn’t strong, and she failed to go through.

College student Sophia Wackerman, 20, Long Beach, California, hailed from a family of professional musicians, and her voice and piano on Bishop Briggs’ Water wowed the judges.

‘If you absolutely concentrate on what you’re doing, you could be sitting on Top 10,’ Lionel said, before Katy took Sophia outside to show the other contestants ‘what a star looks like.’

High school junior Olivia Ximines, 16, from Minifee, California, brought her dance team to the audition, at which she sang Language by Tori Kelly.

‘You are a delight,’ Katy said, comparing her to singer Brandy Norwood, 47, and sending her through. ‘You have a joy and positivity around you.’

Secretary Marna Michele, 27, from Costa Mesa, California, had dreamed about being on Idol for 15 years, and joked, ‘I feel like Kelly Clarkson. Do I look like Kelly Clarkson—sitting down?’

Born with a disability called arthrogryposis, Marna grew up in leg braces, but her weak muscles had confined her to a wheelchair, and she hoped to represent kids like her on Idol.

Her cover of Lady Gaga’s Million Reasons was shaky but after a lesson from Katy, she made it.

Zack Dobbins, an 18-year-old from Clay, West Virginia, had promised a girl he would audition for the show, but hadn’t even known what it was, thinking he was trying out for a plaque.

The construction worker’s original song, Misuse, appealed to the judges, as did his muddy boots, lack of awareness about musical terminology, and genuine nature.

‘Zack, I don’t think you know what you’re doing,’ Katy said, as he got a golden ticket. ‘I don’t you think you need to know what you’re doing… You’re so authentic.’

American Idol will return next week on ABC with the fifth and final auditions episode ahead of Hollywood Week.
