European royals wish their nations a Happy Easter

European royal families have wished their nations a happy Easter via Instagram messages.

The Swedish palace led the way, sharing a sweet clip of their ‘virtual’ celebration on the official Kungahuset account yesterday.

It showed a four-way video call between King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel and their children, Prince Carl-Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden, along with their brood, as well as Princess Madeleine, her husband Chris O’Neill and their children – who are currently in Florida.

The family captioned the post: ‘Digital Easter celebration. Easter celebrations look different in many places this year. There are many who are not given the opportunity to meet loved ones. The royal family follows the recommendations and does not celebrate a common Easter.

‘However, with technical aids, it is possible to meet digitally to wish Happy Easter, which the Royal Family did earlier in the Easter week. Here is a short excerpt from the Royal Family’s digital Easter celebration. Happy Easter!’

On their separate Instagram page, Prince Carl-Philip and Princess Sofia shared a photograph of them with their two boys, Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel, taking part in the call.

Their message read: ‘Happy Easter from us! Due to the current situation, we have to celebrate with the family digitally.’

Princess Madeleine also gathered her family for a group shot, which she shared with a colourful ‘Happy Easter’ banner and the hashtag #staysafe.

‘We can do this, all together, in solidarity by harnessing gratitude and solidarity especially to those in most need such as our elderly people, homeless people, refugees and people who are isolated alone without any family— you are not alone. No one is left behind.

‘This Covid-19 crisis is a good opportunity to re-evaluate what we have, address our systems and leadership and evaluate their effectiveness and adapt them as needed to fit the new post Covid-19 world in order to make sure our societies become stronger, adapted for the needs of today, more united, and fair.’

She continued: ‘A world where we see each other’s worth, whatever nationality, civil status, religion, gender, ethnicity, even past our different opinions and beliefs of what is important and right.

‘Where we may receive from nature in stead of take, where we understand that we can not conquer, but may contribute. Where we no longer judge our fellow women and men, but dare to look at all our experiences as our teachings. Taking responsibility for our emotions, so there is no need to point fingers at anyone else, but regard others as our teachers.

‘How we dare to show up for each other with love, compassion and gratitude. Let us create this world together. Happy Easter!’
