Aston Villa are set to secure the signing of Everton defender Lucas Digne.
Talks were advancing on Sunday night as Villa manager Steven Gerrard moved ahead of competition from Newcastle United, West Ham and Chelsea.
Gerrard wants the 28-year-old to add more experience to his relatively young defence. Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi had been mentioned as a makeweight in the deal but Everton want straight cash.

Digne is eager to play under Gerrard at Villa.
Villa have already agreed to bring in midfielder Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona.
Digne’s Everton future was thrown into doubt after he fell out with manager Rafa Benitez.
The 28-year-old has not played for Everton since their 4-1 defeat to rivals Liverpool on December 1.

Digne joined Everton from Barcelona in 2018 for an initial fee of £18million.
During his time at the club he has made 127 appearances for the club.
Everton have already signed a left-back in this transfer window, bringing in Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kiev.
Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho has flown over ahead of his medical prior to joining Villa on loan from Barcelona. Villa have also discussed a move for Yves Bissouma, who is a Newcastle target too, but Brighton want £50m.
Villa have made an offer worth up to £800,000 for Dundee United’s talented defender Kerr Smith from Dundee United. The 17-year-old is also wanted by Crystal Palace and previously trained with Villa, Manchester United and Everton.
