After being closed for months, Sydney bakery The Grumpy Baker has officially fired up the bread ovens and reopened its Elizabeth Street bus stop café.

The popular stop is known for selling mouthwatering pastries, fresh loaves of bread, flaky sausage rolls and delicious croissants made daily at the Hyde Park location.

It comes as commuters start to return to the city after working from home for many months.

The Grumpy Baker launched down Elizabeth Street in Hyde Park in March 2021 and was quickly hit with weary customers.

Customers will be delighted will the reopening of the bakery to grab a morning coffee and breakfast treat before heading to work.

Owner Michael Cthurmer has been running the bakery across multiple suburban locations for close to 20 years, but felt comfortable prior to opening in the busy city space.

But Mr Cthurmer said the tight space has proven to be difficult at times.

‘We’ve had to adapt to the smaller premises,’ he told Broadsheet, adding: ‘Creating this was, I think, more of a headache than a big space because the shop was awkward.’

The bus stop is a small double brick building that so far has enough room to sit a few customers inside.
