George Kambosos has vowed to punish Devin Haney for his controversial ‘white boy’ comments as the Australian hero ramped up his war of words with his American rival ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster at Marvel Stadium.

Tensions have flared during fight week in Melbourne with Kambosos and Haney laying on the mind games with their undisputed lightweight title fight just around the corner.

On Wednesday, the Australian raised comments from Haney back in 2020 in which he controversially claimed he will ‘never lose to a white boy’ during his professional career.

Haney, an African-American, was being touted as a future opponent for Vasily Lomachenko and made the remark during an interview on a YouTube channel.

‘Listen, can’t (sic) no white boy beat me. I don’t care, on any day of the week,’ he said.

‘I fight a white boy like 10 times, I’m gonna beat him 10 times.’

Haney swiftly apologised for the remark, insisting he had ‘learned a valuable lesson’, but Kambosos is using the comments as motivation ahead of their clash at Marvel Stadium.

‘I have been made aware of those racial comments he made and to suggest he would never lose to a white man just sums up the type of person he is,’ Kambosos said.

‘It’s below the belt. It’s disrespectful to humanity, to all Australians and to white people around the world.

‘One thing about me, I can talk the talk, but I am always respectful of people regardless of race, religion, colour or creed.

‘I have some African-American friends and they are among the most beautiful people in the world.

‘If he wants to bring race into it, that’s on him and he has to look at himself in the mirror and take responsibility for what he said and live with it.

‘If he thinks no white man will beat him, well I am going to punch his head in on Sunday and maybe then he will get an appreciation for my ability.’

Kambosos also repeated accusations that Haney ‘snitched’ on Teofimo Lopez by giving him information about the former champion before the Australian’s fight with him in New York.

‘I have proof that he was a snitch,’ Kambosos said. ‘Haney first contacted me about five weeks out from my fight (against Lopez).

‘He made the first move, I remember seeing my phone. I got a text and he says “it’s Devin Haney, I’ve got some information on Teofimo Lopez that can help you”.

‘I was like, “Wow”.’
