The Crown fans have been sent into a frenzy after claiming they spotted Kate Middleton among the crowds greeting Princess Diana in the new series.
During episode six of the fourth series released on Sunday, Princess Diana, played by Emma Corrin, and Prince Charles, portrayed by Josh O’Connor, can be seen embarking on their lavish tour of Australia in 1983.
In one scene which has caused quite the reaction on social media, the Princess of Wales, clutching a bunch of red roses, can be seen walking through the streets of Brisbane to greet well-wishers.
Amongst the royal fans includes one young woman with brunette hair donning a yellow cardigan, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Duchess of Cambridge.
And many were quick to take to Twitter to point out the lookalike, with one writing: ‘Surely SURELY I’m not the only one who has definitely (read: probably not, but definitely) spotted Kate Middleton in the background in Season 4 of The Crown.

Taking to Twitter, one person penned: ‘Surely SURELY I’m not the only one who has definitely (read: probably not, but definitely) spotted Kate Middleton in the background in Season 4 of The Crown’ (pictured)
A second penned: ‘Meta moment in S4 Ep6 of #TheCrown….while depicting Charles and Diana’s trip to Oz, one of the women reaching out to touch Diana is the spit of Kate Middleton.’
In the clip, the enthusiastic woman can be seen cheering as she shakes Princess Diana’s hand, who dons a replica version of the bright pink ensemble and matching fascinator the royal wore during the engagement, which attracted thousands.
However, a closer look reveals that the woman is not the young royal – but looks remarkably similar.
The scenes shot in Spain mirror the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with William, when they spent 41 days travelling to Alice Springs, Ayers Rock and Bondi Beach.

But while Emma Corrin dons a range of replica garments which capture Diana’s wardrobe style in painstakingly accurate detail, social media users have branded the looks as ‘dowdy’ and ‘horrendous’ with many highlighting how 1980s garish jumpers don’t look great in hindsight.
‘Binged the lot. It’s a triumph. Absolute triumph. My kind of telly. No violence. No blood and guts. Just intrigue, quiet back stabbing and a reminder of the absolute horrors of 80s fashion. #TheCrown’ wrote one.
‘A lot of people talking about how princess Di was a fashion icon but I’m not seeing the same thing. Late 80s/90s fashion was so damn horrendous,’ added another.
The much-anticipated season portrays Diana’s entrance in the Royal Family, as well as her incompatibility with Charles due to their near 13-year age difference.
It also focuses on Thatcher’s rise to power and her dramatic social reforms in the 1980s, which divided the country as it led to weakening of the power of the trade unions and the 1984 miners strike.
