An American expat has revealed the ‘sad’ truth about living in Australia that ‘doesn’t make any sense’ to her.

TikToker Ashleigh, who goes by the name @coffeeenut online, moved from New York to Tasmania for university and noticed the bagels Down Under taste different compared to the US.

In a short video, she said: ‘Things in Australia that genuinely do not make any sense at all to an American who just moved – the bagels, moving on.’

She claims Aussie bagels are ‘so sad and dense’, but she enjoys the coffee culture.

TikToker Ashleigh moved from New York to Tasmania for university and noticed the bagels Down Under aren’t the same compared to the US

In the US, bagels are a popular breakfast option that are often topped with cream cheese and butter.

But Australians prefer bacon and egg rolls or avocado on toast along with a coffee first thing in the morning rather than a bagel.

The short video has since gone viral and been viewed a staggering 1.2million times with hundreds of comments.

One woman asked how Ashleigh is liking Aussie coffee, and she said: ‘Australian coffee is way better than most American’.

Some expats agreed and claim they struggle finding decent bagels in their cities, but others said Melbourne and Perth are filled with bakeries that sell tasty bagels.

‘Melbourne is covered in bagel shops, a few suburbs have a high Jewish population with great family bakeries!’ one person wrote.

‘As an Aussie who has visited America many times, you are correct! You guys do bagels better,’ another wrote.

Despite the differences between US and Down Under, Ashleigh said she made ‘a good choice’ moving internationally.

In other videos, Ashleigh said she’s also been confused by Aussie street parking signs and power outlet switches.
